How to Feed a Baby who Eats Solids, Anywhere
In the event that you need to feed a baby who eats solids, anywhere, here's what you can do.
NOTE: Babies eat mashed food at about 5-6 months old, and mashed meat at around 7-8 months old. For baby indigestion (or yours) drops of pickle juice fed to baby on your finger helps a lot. Also for constipation.
Essentially, the baby needs mashed food in addition to their bottle/breast milk and in a crisis situation for example, we often do not have jarred baby food, or a way to mash the food. But there are many options that can help feed the baby properly even without these modern conveniences.
STEP ONE:
FOOD OPTIONS if You Have No Way to Cook Food:
Jarred applesauce
Avocado
Banana
Canned sweet potato
Yogurt
Kefir
Raisins (when baby can chew with gums)
Bread (softened with water/milk, or served in little prices)
FOOD OPTIONS if You Have a Way to Cook Food:
Maize flour
Rice
Quinoa
Oatmeal
Sweet and regular potatoes
Boxed broth
Rice noodle
Miso soup
Carrots
Fresh cooked fish, pork, chicken
Okra
Boiled egg (yolk is the easiest part to feed baby)
Berries (good for constipation)
STEP TWO:
When you feed the baby, make sure the food is completely mashed, and there are no little bones. Be sure you cook the meat thoroughly, and to get the best results for softening, cook slowly with the meat covered. If the baby can chew with their gums, be sure the bites you give them are very small. You can mash food with the back of a fork or spoon. If you have a blender or food processor, use them! Let baby have as much as they want.
*If you think it appropriate, safe, or comfortable, you can "bird feed" the baby by chewing the food first and hand feeding the baby with the food from your mouth.
Options for Cooking Anywhere:
Regular stove
Propane stove
